The Green Line is The City of Calgary’s next light rail transit (LRT) line and largest infrastructure investment in our city’s history. Construction of Phase 1 begins in late 2024 and is expected to take six years to build. On July 30, Calgary City Council approved a revised Green Line Phase 1 project scope, capital funding request and delivery model, as recommended by the Green Line Board, to ensure construction can begin while responsibly addressing the cost inflation that is impacting all major infrastructure projects across North America. Phase 1 - Lynnwood/Millican to Eau Clair

Phase 1 of the Green Line spans 10 kilometres from Lynnwood/Millican in the southeast to Eau Claire at the north end of downtown (view map). With 7 stations, it provides connections to the Red and Blue LRT lines and two MAX rapid bus routes.

The Green Line will introduce modern low-floor trains to Calgary that improve accessibility and allow for station designs that integrate easily into the community. Upon opening, the Green Line is expected to serve up to 32,000 daily riders and provide direct access to 162,400 jobs in downtown and southeast industrial areas.

Future phases

Due to the size and cost of the full project, the Green Line LRT will be built in phases as funding becomes available. The full vision for the Green Line is to connect communities between Seton and 160 Avenue N. It will be an important piece of Calgary's rapid transit network, adding 29 stations and 46 km of track to the existing LRT system.

The full Green Line will connect to key destinations like the South Health Campus and will integrate with a future rail connection to the Calgary International Airport.

Connecting and shaping our city

The Green Line strategically connects residential areas, employment hubs and essential services, benefiting all Calgarians who live and work across the city. It will provide fast, frequent, and reliable service, and connections to hundreds of key destinations throughout the city.

It will also play an important role in shaping the City’s future. Green Line LRT is both a transit system and a platform for long-term city building. This will encourage redevelopment and investment opportunities in Calgary businesses and communities.
