Highlights of 2025
On Thursday, May 7, we provided Council’s Infrastructure & Planning Committee with the annual update.
Looking back on 2025, we focused our efforts on three main improvements:
- Safety
- Reliability
- Frequency
We’re improving operator safety with stronger bus operator barriers. We opened the first two storefronts in more than 10 years to make stations more welcoming and provide more natural surveillance. Reliability is improving with the first third of our winter tires now on buses, as well as preparing new technology that will provide customers with closer to real time information on all buses. Finally, we’re improving frequency in north Calgary with the opening of the Max Green BRT line, which provides fast and frequent service during peak periods.
Looking forward to 2026
We’re always pursuing improvements for customers. In 2025, we’re beginning the work to introduce easier ways to pay for transit, like tap and go; looking for ways to make it cheaper to process fares; and updating Calgary Transit fare strategy, which will look at the entire system and the value of fares for customers throughout.

What is RouteAhead?
RouteAhead is Calgary Transit’s 30-year plan that guides us in providing safe, accessible, customer-focused transit service for Calgarians. It’s divided into three core principles (Customer Experience, Network Planning and Financing Transit) to help us shape transit service delivery over the next 30 years. Each year, we’ll publish a RouteAhead Annual Status Report to show how we’re turning long-term plans into real improvements. These updates highlight progress in service, infrastructure, and the overall customer experience.
RouteAhead is informed by the Municipal Development Plan (MDP), which describes the vision for growth in Calgary over the next 60 years, and the Calgary Transportation Plan (CTP), which includes the transportation policies that will help guide Calgary towards the MDP vision over 30 years.
Originally approved by Council in 2013, an updated RouteAhead was approved in July 2023.
